Sichuan Normal University, known as "Sichuan Normal University" (SICNU), is located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, known as the "Land of Heavenly Mansion". It is a key university for the national "Basic Capacity Construction Project of Central and Western Universities". It is a high-level university for the "Double First-Class" construction plan of Sichuan Province. It is selected as the "Excellent Teacher Training Program", "Sichuan Province Excellent Legal Talent Education and Training Program", Sichuan Province's "2011 Plan, Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program". It is a national free teacher training institution and a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. It is the earliest undergraduate normal education and the oldest key university among normal universities in Sichuan Province. It is a key research base for the Ministry of Education's humanities and social sciences. It has the qualifications of graduate school and recommended graduate students without examination. The school was founded in 1946 and its birth has a direct historical origin with Northeastern University. In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province to run a school. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang, and teachers and students staying in Sichuan founded the North Sichuan Agricultural and Engineering College on the original campus. In 1949, Xishan Academy was absorbed and renamed as Sichuan North University; in 1950, Sichuan North University of Literature was merged and moved to Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. In 1952, with North Sichuan University as the main body, some majors of Sichuan East Education College (formerly the College of Rural Construction), Sichuan University and West China University were merged to form Sichuan Normal University. In 1964, the three departments of mathematics, physics and chemistry of the former Chengdu University (now Southwest University of Finance and Economics) were incorporated into the school. In 1985, it was renamed Sichuan Normal University with the approval of the National Education Commission. In 1999, the former Chengdu Coal Cadre Management College of the Ministry of Coal was incorporated into the school. As of July 2018, the school has three campuses, Shizishan, Jackie Chan and East Campus, and Guanghan Science and Education Park, with a campus area of more than 3,400 mu; there are more than 37,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 4,000 doctoral and master students; there are more than 3,000 teaching and scientific researchers of various types; there are 26 colleges and 82 undergraduate majors.
